Juneteenth Federal Holiday Observed

President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act this afternoon establishing June 19 as a federal holiday. As the 19th falls on a Saturday, Federal agencies will observe Juneteenth tomorrow, June 18.

The base will suspend all flying/test operations and the airfield will be closed. Only Weather/Safety Mission Critical employees may be required to work. This is a small subset of the entire base population.  If in doubt, please consult with your supervisors to determine if you are deemed Mission Critical

Plant 42 will operate in a mission critical posture to support mission partner operations.

Military – this is a non-duty day. Follow standard AFI leave policy if appropriate for your situation.

Civilians are authorized the holiday leave; please get with your timekeepers early next week for guidance on how to update your timecard appropriately. The excusal from duty applies to Appropriated fund civilians and Non Appropriated Fund Civilians.

Contract employees must consult with their specific Contracting Officers for your reporting instructions.

The following base facilities will be closed: CDC, School Age Center, South Gate, Visitor Control Center (VCC) at West Gate. 

The Medical Group’s Pharmacy will be open tomorrow from 0800-1200. If you had a previously scheduled appointment, the clinic will be reaching out to reschedule. If you have an emergency, you can go to your nearest emergency room or call 911. You may also contact the nurse advice line at 1-800-874-2273 

The Golf Course, Bowling Alley, AAFES (includes the BX, Food Court, Starbucks, Gas Station, Burger King), and the Commissary will have normal hours. Club Muroc will open at 1600 for dining/Scotch tasting event and will close at its normal time.
