Due to wildfires within the Los Angeles Basin with the potential to impact Edwards AFB employees and family members, the base commander has required all personnel assigned to the base to report their location and status to their organizational leadership using the process established for this purpose.
If you have been affected by any of the wildfires in Southern California, please contact your unit leadership who can advise you of any support available from the base.
CAL FIRE is currently tracking five major fires in Los Angeles County north of the city. The closest fires to the base are the Lidia Fire on Soledad Canyon Road in Acton and the Hurst Fire south of Santa Clarita. Evacuation orders have been issued for areas affected by these fires. For full details on these fires, including evacuation areas, road closures, and shelters, visit www.fire.ca.gov.
There are dozens of road closures caused by the fires, so, if possible, limit travel outside of the Antelope Valley. If you must drive somewhere, keep a sharp eye out for emergency vehicles.
The Air Force has established an excellent web site about wildfire preparedness and response at Air Force Be Ready > Disasters/Emergencies > Natural Disasters > Wildfires. Another site with valuable local wildfire information is Watch Duty - Wildfire Maps & Alerts.
