AIR FORCE DEPLOYS MEDICAL TEAM TO HOUSTON Published June 14, 2001 LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, TX -- A team of more than 80 people from the 59th Medical Wing (Wilford Hall Medical Center) departed for Houston this morning to provide humanitarian assistance for the flood victims. They will be located adjacent to Astro Hall on Kirby Drive.The team will set up and maintain a 25-bed hospital. The Wilford Hall medical staff members will be able to provide emergency surgery, critical care, adult and pediatric care, OB/GYN, pharmacy, radiology, laboratory, dental and mental health care. The team will be fully operational within 24 hours. Wilford Hall has expeditionary medical support packages that can be deployed worldwide and fully capable within a short time.The emergency situation in Houston exceeds local emergency service capabilities due to flood damage.For more information contact the 59th Medical Wing Public Affairs Office at 210-292-7688.
