The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Aerospace Engineering Technician (Aerospace) (NJ-0802-III) to work at the 412th Test Wing, 412th Test Engineering Group, 773 Test Squadron, Human Systems Integration Flight (773 TS/ENFH) at Edwards AFB in Edwads, CA.

NO 6-MONTH WAIT! Recently retired and/or retiring from MILITARY service ARE eligible for immediate appointment for AFTC positions. The 180-day waiting period has been waived for AFTC to hire recently retired and/or retiring service members.

This position has a typical 2023 salary range of $69,729 - $109,673 (includes locality).

Position specific skills and experience desired in a potential candidate:
- 2 years of experience with parachutes desired
- Airfield experience & Military radio/ aircraft communication desired
- Adobe photoshop or digital media editing experience highly desirable

Mission/Purpose:
The primary purpose is to perform the technical work involved in the planning, provisioning, conduct, evaluation, and reporting of open air (OA), installed vehicle (IV), system integration laboratory (SlL.), and hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) tests of air vehicles. These air vehicles may be manned or unmanned air vehicles, missiles, or hypersonic vehicles. Tests of systems consist of oxygen, cargo handling (loading, offloading, combat offloading, transport), aerial delivery (cargo and personnel), egress, life support, environmental control, manned and unmanned vehicle aerodynamic decelerators (aircraft spin and drogue parachutes, recovery systems, retro-rockets), and ejection seat systems.

Major Duties:
-Attends test planning meetings and recommends equipment (e.g., instrumentation, safety requirements, range support).
- The position provides experienced test planning support in the area of aerial delivery and mission systems.
-Participates in Test Plan Working Groups and may be called upon to write some portions of test plans.
- Assures equipment and procedures specified by the project engineer are used in the fabrication and preparation of test and related items; recommends improvement or validation.
-Procures and maintains test equipment; ensures calibration to proper standards.
-Plans and coordinates test methods, procurement of instrumentation equipment and supplies, and construction of devices for use during conduct of tests.
-Ensures that special instrumentation or devices are available at the required time.
-Routinely reports on progress of fabrication efforts to Project Engineers.
-Gathers and compiles flight test data involving cinetheodolites, strip charts, photography, computer analyses, plots, etc.
-Takes data processing requirements from Project Engineers and assembles data requests.
-Collects and correlates processed data and performs data quality checks.
-Performs additional data processing and data presentation preparation on personal computers or engineering workstations.
-Delivers finished data products to Project Engineers.

Qualifications/Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Obtain & maintain Security clearance (if applicable)
- Knowledge of basic concepts, principles, and techniques of aerospace engineering, as it relates to engineering technician duties.
- Knowledge of the basic function of combat or transport aircraft, aerial delivery, and missions systems.
- Knowledge of flight and laboratory air vehicle/missile test equipment and test conduct, data analysis and associated truth sources, modeling and simulation, technical report preparation, and administrative aspects of flight test programs.
- Ability to plan and organize work and to coordinate with other engineering technicians and with project engineers
