Construction has begun on new building

Drivers and pedestrians should use caution in the construction area and follow all signs and detours. Park away from the zone due to windblown debris, dirt and small rocks. Expect noise, uneven surfaces and heavy equipment.

Caltrans reminds drivers to “Be Work Zone Alert” and to “Move Over”

WHAT: The California Department of Transportation has scheduled Lane Closures on the northbound and southbound Antelope Valley Freeway between Technology Drive in Palmdale and Avenue A in Lancaster, closing up to three lanes. The closures are necessary to perform pavement replacement, inside shoulder work and set K-rail that will extend the life of the existing lanes by a minimum of 40 years and improve ride quality. Currently, construction work is on-going Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 6 a.m., and Friday through Saturday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. to minimize traffic impacts. There are Long Term Closures of North- & Southbound Avenue H on- & off-ramps starting Jan. 6. Long Term Closure of North- & Southbound Avenue I on- & off-ramps starting Dec. 1. Long Term Closure of Northbound Avenue K on- & off-ramps through July 2026. Long Term Closure of Southbound Avenue J ramps to start May 14, 2026. Detours will be posted and are subject to change. Closures are as follows:

Traffic advisory

Rosamond Blvd.: closed through June 19, lane closures June 20 – July 3
Due to ongoing road repairs and asphalt paving operations, Rosamond Blvd., between Fitz-Gerald Boulevard and South Muroc/Bob White Drive, will be closed through June 19. A single-lane, one-way configuration will remain open for access to the B2580 facility and emergency vehicles. Lane closures will be in effect June 20 through July 3. A traffic control plan will be in effect featuring electronic signs, cones, flaggers and reduced speed limits.
Lancaster Blvd. project schedule: May 11 - June 28
A section of North Lancaster Boulevard, between Fitzgerald Boulevard and South Rosamond Boulevard, is closed for roadwork until June 28. The construction is part of an ongoing effort to improve base infrastructure, reduce vehicle wear, and ensure safer, more efficient routes for daily commutes and emergency responders. Drivers are advised to follow posted message boards, remain alert for construction crews and allow extra travel time.

Forbes Ave. project schedule: June 15 - July 3

A section of Forbes Ave., between Hercules St. and Payne Ave., will be reduced to a single lane with flagging operations as crews conduct paving operations. The project will begin on June 15 and is expected to conclude by July 3.Traffic will be controlled by flaggers directing vehicles through the open lane in alternating directions. Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible. Some intersections may be temporarily closed, and detour routes will be provided to maintain access. A traffic control plan will be in effect featuring electronic signs, cones, flaggers and reduced speed limits.

Bowling alley parking lot to close for repairs; facility remains open

Repaving and sidewalk repairs at the bowling alley parking lot are scheduled to begin June 15 and are expected to conclude July 27. The bowling alley will remain open during construction, but the parking lot will be closed. Alternate parking is available at the Wing Field parking lots.

South Gate: landscape operations, minor traffic delays

South Gate landscaping operations will occur from May 11 to June 26, resulting in potential minor traffic delays. The enhancement project encompasses the installation of new irrigation systems, vegetation, decorative rock, decomposed granite and boulders. Additionally, the site will receive updated signage and static displays. Drivers transiting the area should expect minor delays and remain alert for construction crews and heavy machinery.

On June 19, 1947, Colonel Albert Boyd, Chief of the Flight Test Division at Wright Field, returned the world’s absolute speed record to the United States for the first time in 24 years. He flew a highly modified P-80R nicknamed Racey over a three-kilometer course over Rogers Dry Lake. Making four runs at less than 100 ft altitude, he averaged 623.85 mph. This was the first of 12 absolute speed records that would be accomplished at Muroc/Edwards or by Edwards test pilots over the next 18 years. Today, programs like the X-59 and the B-21 push boundaries of speed and technology as Team Edwards continues to Sharpen American Airpower.

Edwards Air Force Base and our entire community are mourning the tragic loss of eight of our teammates who perished in yesterday’s B-52 accident. Tragedies of this magnitude are a sobering reminder of the inherent risks of flight testing and the profound sacrifices made in defense of our nation.

As we process this devastating news, it is vital that we look out for one another. Grief affects us all differently, and no one should carry this heavy burden alone. Please take a moment to check in on your teammates, your families and yourself.

To support our community, the Emergency Family Assistance Center has been established as a centralized, safe environment offering comprehensive services to help our base population navigate this tragedy.

To register and request an absentee ballot use FVAP’s easy online assistant at www.fvap.gov/FPCA to walk you through state-specific form completion. Once you complete the FPCA, print, sign, and send it to your election office. Most states accept the FPCA by email or fax while some require it by mail. Check your state-specific guidelines at FVAP.gov. Once you receive your requested absentee ballot, vote and return it as soon as you get it. Remember to carefully follow the instructions, especially using a “security envelope” if required, and sign the package as indicated when returning it. To save time, send voted ballots electronically if allowed by state law. Voters can check if their state accepts completed absentee ballots by email, fax, or via an online portal at FVAP.gov/guide. ✈️ Edwards AFB Veterinary Clinic Begins Phased Reopening

The Edwards AFB Veterinary Treatment Facility is gradually reopening services to privately owned animals of active-duty service members and retirees. Personnel must present military identification prior to each appointment.
📅 Service Details and Scheduling Priorities
Initial availability will be limited to a few days per month. Clinic staff prioritize scheduling for inbounding service members on permanent change of station orders. As personnel levels increase, the clinic plans to offer wellness exams, preventive care and vaccinations, medications, health certificates for travel. The clinic currently operates without an assigned technician, which severely limits overall appointment availability.

This 4-day course will teach participants advanced skills in conducting accident investigations. The curriculum focuses on determining contributing factors that lead to injuries or fatalities and developing courses of action to prevent future incidents. Participants will learn the importance of conducting thorough, consistent investigations that can stand up in court, if necessary, as well as how to calculate direct and indirect costs associated with an accident. Coursework includes lectures, in-class workshops, case studies, and out-of-class assignments. Note: UTA expects attendees to participate actively throughout the course. Please limit work-related tasks and schedule appointments outside of course hours.

✈️ AF 90 calendar-day review of previously approved civilian disability and religious reasonable accommodations (effective Match 13)

To comply with Department of War (DoW) Memorandum, “Review of Reasonable Accommodations for Civilian Employees,” dated 13 March 2026, (Tab 1) DAF organizations at all levels will review all currently approved and in effect disability and religious reasonable accommodations (RA) as of 13 March 2026 for appropriated and nonappropriated funded civilian employees as outlined in DAF Memorandum, Department of the Air Force 90 Calendar-Day Review of Previously Approved Civilian Disability and Religious Reasonable Accommodations, 14 April 2026, (Tab 2).

The purpose of the review is to assess whether each approved RA is still needed, effective, or may need modification, based on whether there are alternative RA options that are effective, less burdensome and more closely aligned with mission needs, consistent with law. This review will be accomplished within 90 calendar days effective 13 March 2026.

During this review, all currently approved disability and religious RAs will remain in effect with no changes.

Where a supervisor determines an RA may require a modification during the 90 calendar-day review, the supervisor will have an additional 60 calendar days to engage in the interactive process with the affected employee to have an ongoing dialogue to gather additional information concerning limitations or barriers to assist in identifying potential RAs that might be effective, consistent with law.

DAF organizations, including supervisors, will be provided with subsequent guidance to implement this 60 calendar-day interactive process requirement in the coming weeks.

All currently pending and new RA requests submitted after 13 March 2026 will continue to implement existing DAF procedures, with the understanding that these pending and new RAs will be treated as interim/temporary RAs until updated DAF RA policy is issued as directed by DoW.

The DAF remains committed to nondiscrimination and equal opportunity. This includes providing RAs to qualified employees and applicants with a disability consistent with the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (29 USC § 791 et seq.), as amended, and employees with sincerely held bona fide religious beliefs, practices, or observances consistent with the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (42 USC § 2000e et seq.), unless to do so would impose undue hardship on the DAF.

1) For an employee who began dues withholding allotments before 11 January 1979; Beginning the first full pay period following 1 September provided the SF 1188 is received by the Civilian Pay Section prior to 1 September.
2) For an employee who started dues withholding on or after 11 January 1979 but before 10 August 2020; Beginning the first full pay period following the particular anniversary date (the anniversary date is the starting date of the first pay period for which dues were deducted from the employee’s pay).
3) For an employee who started dues withholding on or after 10 August 2020, the Agency should process the request as soon as administratively feasible if at least one year has passed since the employee initially authorized union-dues assignment from the employee’s pay.

► Effective Friday, August 22: SharePoint requests must be submitted at least three duty days prior to the start of the visit. Requests submitted with less advance notice require the sponsor to request visitor sponsorship in-person at the VCC.
Important reminder: Sponsors are responsible for ensuring their visitors know how their information was submitted to the Visitor Control Center.

The 412^th Test Wing Legal Office is now open Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Qualifying members can obtain notaries and powers of attorney during these hours. Legal assistance is provided by appointment and covers family law issues (divorce, child custody), landlord-tenant matters, personal finances/debts, immigration/naturalization law, the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA), Uniformed Services Employments and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), taxes, etc.

Qualifying members include:
Active duty members, retirees & registered dependents; reserve members while on active orders; 100% disabled veterans; DoD civilians preparing to deploy to a theater of operations as part of their employment. Deploying active duty members and civilians will be given priority.

It's never too early to prepare for retirement! Retirement planning is not a one-time event, but a career-long strategy of financial literacy and mindfulness. It is recommended you begin planning at least five years before your projected retirement date.

Additionally, employees who have “pure” service may obtain an annuity estimate using the ‘Retirement Calculator’. “Pure service” is service fully creditable for retirement purposes, i.e., no breaks in service and all service is covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). The Benefits & Entitlements Service Team (BEST) also offers regularly scheduled Benefits 101 and FERS Retirement briefings to provide additional information and answer general questions for participants.

If you are retiring within the next 6 months, and have not already done so, we recommend you review the “Applying for Civilian Retirement” knowledge article in myFSS. Reviewing this article will assist you with ensuring you are completing all appropriate steps prior to submitting your retirement application.

BEST utilizes myFSS for all communication. As such, we recommend you update your myFSS profile to include your personal email address and review your email, including junk/spam, for any benefits or retirement related correspondence.

✈️ Real ID compliance

Edwards AFB Visitor Control Center would like to remind all personnel the changes in Installation Access requirements. The safety and security of the base remains our top priority and adherence to these requirements listed below ensures safe and efficient access to Edwards AFB. Military personnel, civilian employees, contractor’s dependents, and base residents are not impacted by this change. These groups may continue to use their Common Access Card or Uniformed Services identification Card for base access.

Starting May 7, members without a Common Access Card or Uniform Services Identification Card need a Real ID-compliant driver’s license or identification card to gain base access. Real ID-compliant licenses and identification cards are easily recognizable by a star in the upper corner of the card.

The Real ID Act was passed by congress in 2005 to enhance national security. The goal was to make it difficult to produce counterfeit IDs and it creates a verification standard across all states.

IDs that contain the markings: “Not Valid for Federal Purposes,” “Not for Use as Federal Identification,” “Federal Limits May Apply,” or any other similar phrase are no longer an acceptable credential and must be utilized in conjunction with a federally accepted credential.

Retired Civilians who do not possess a real ID can bring a copy of their SF50 along with their nonfederal issued ID, original birth certificate with raised seal and social security card. They will be issued a DBIDs card for a period of 1 year (365 days).

Visitors who do not possess a driver’s license or identification card compliant with the REAL ID Act need to present two valid forms of identification to gain access to base. Accepted forms are listed below:

United States Passport or United States Passport Card.
US Birth Certificate of Naturalization or Certificate of Citizenship (Form-550).
Enhanced driver’s license issued by a State, territory, possession, or the District of Columbia.
Any other U.S. Federal, State, territory, possession, or District of Columbia Government-issued credential bearing a photograph, including credentials from other paragraphs in this section that are deemed acceptable by the DoD Component head and consistent with applicable laws. (ex. Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST, TWIC, Tribal Card, VHIC, PIVs).
Identification Card Issued by Federal, State, or Local Government Agencies Provided It Contains a Photograph and Biographic Information such as Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Height, Eye Color, And Address.
Any other government-issued credential bearing a photograph and deemed acceptable by the DoD Component.
Non-CAC LRC issued by the local installation or region.
Permanent Resident Card/Alien Registration Receipt Card (Form I-551).
Foreign passport with a temporary (I-551) stamp or temporary (I-551) printed notation on a machine-readable immigrant visa.
Foreign passport bearing an unexpired immigrant or non-immigrant visa or entry stamp.
Foreign Government Issued Passport with Current Arrival-Departure Records (INS Form 94) Bearing Names as the same name as the passport and containing an endorsement of an Alien’s nonimmigrant status, it that Status authorizes the Alien to work for the employer.
