About the 412th Mission Support Group

The Mission Support Group delivers combat and test-enabling mission support to over 11,000 personnel assigned to Edwards Air Force Base, the 412th Test Wing, the Air Force Research Laboratory, NASA’s Flight Research Facility and 50 associate units on an installation spanning 308,000 acres.

The 412th Communications Squadron operates and defends Edwards’ cyberspace domain and is responsible for full-spectrum capabilities to enable weapons system testing, evaluation and development in order to deliver war-winning capability to our nation’s combat air forces.

The group’s 412th Force Support Squadron enables the human warfighter, providing exceptional personnel and manpower administration, as well as morale, welfare and recreation support programs and services for the entire Edwards’ community. 

The 412th Logistics Readiness Squadron integrates transportation, fuel, supply and logistics planning to provide world-class customer support to the Edwards’ mission.

The group’s 412th Security Forces Squadron provides integrated base defense and force protection for all Edwards’ personnel and missions, while simultaneously preparing and deploying defenders in support of worldwide contingencies and combat operations. Additionally, the Combat Arms Section of the 412th Security Forces Squadron equips not only 412 TW Airmen but LAAFB, Plant 42, March ARB, Miramar, six Army Units, DCIS and NASA with cutting-edge, innovative marksmanship skills to enhance our nation’s warfighting capabilities year-round. 

The 412th Mission Support Group also serves as the base liaison to the local school district, Army and Air Force Exchange Service and Defense Commissary Agency.

412th Mission Support Group Leadership

Major Taylor D. Farris

Maj. Taylor D. Farris is a student of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff School, Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. This Professional Military Education institution provides masters-level curriculum and instruction to nearly 5000 U.S. Army, Sister Service, and Interagency personnel annually preparing field grade officers to be agile, innovative, and adaptive leaders within increasingly complex and uncertain environments. Areas of study include the application of leadership, operational art, mission command, and strategic-level concepts to enhance national security and effectively conduct joint, interagency, intergovernmental, and multinational operations.

Farris commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Arkansas in May 2011 and attended Security Forces Basic Officer Course at Camp Bullis, San Antonio, Texas. During his 14-year career, Farris has held the positions of Flight Commander, Officer-in-Charge, Logistics, Operations Officer, and Squadron Commander. Additionally, he served in the Missile Field during his assignment at F.E. Warren AFB as well as deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan and Operation Inherent Resolve as Commander, 332d Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron. Prior to his current assignment, Farris was the Chief, Weapon Systems Security, Headquarters United States Air Forces Europe-Air Forces Africa, Security Forces Division, Ramstein Air Base, Germany where he was responsible for surety security operations, policy, procedures, and certification for 19 units, seven bases, and 3900 Security Forces personnel protecting 540 assets valued at 92 billion dollars. He is married to his wife, Karla, and they have four boys: Joseph (19), James (10), Monroe (7), and Maverick (5).
