POW/MIA Col. Kelly F. Cook

Maureen Kozak holds her father’s medals and displays a prisoner-of-war/missing-in-action bracelet bearing his name. Col. Kelly F. Cook was a fighter pilot who was listed as MIA in Vietnam and was later declared killed in action, body not recovered. Cook’s medals include a Purple Heart, two Distinguished Flying Crosses and four Air Medals. Maureen has corresponded with several supporters across the nation who have worn a POW/MIA bracelet with her father’s name on it, including a family she sends a Christmas card to every year. Maureen wore her bracelet as a teenager through adulthood until it broke; it’s now stored for safekeeping. (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt. Mercedes Crossland)
