Samantha Blanchard
Samantha Blanchard holds up her rocket at Mariposa Elementary School. The 9-year-old fifth grader launched the rocket with a Barbie doll in it during a test launch April 27. She is one of 60 Mariposa and Linda Verde Elementary school children who take part in the school district's first rocket club. Revell Walker, an Edwards Air Force Base engineer, is the club mentor and has been invited to teach classes on rocketry and space history to local children for the past nine years. (Courtesy photo)
