Fallen Marine comes home
Lance Cpl. Joseph C. Lopez’s funeral procession leaves Edwards Air Force Base, Calif. Corporal Lopez, 26, is from Rosamond, Calif., just outside Edwards AFB. He was killed in action during combat operations in Helmend province Afghanistan, Oct. 14. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif. He was transported to Lancaster, Calif., for final rites. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger issued the following statement regarding the death of Lance Corporal Lopez: “Maria and I were very saddened to learn of the death of Lance Corporal Joseph Lopez. He was an outstanding Marine and loyal patriot. We join all Californians in honoring his admirable service and the sacrifice he made to defend the freedoms we are fortunate to enjoy every day.
