Airman 1st Class Angela Guilbert, 412th Medical Operations Squadron transports the METIman mannequin into the Antelope Valley Hospital emergency room. Five injured personnel were transported to AV Hospital in Lancaster during Exercise Desert Wind 13-02. Included in the group was the The METIman, a highly technical, highly advanced mannequin that assists in training and is owned by the 412th Medical Group. It added to the exercise scenario by allowing medics to go beyond normal capabilities using volunteers as patients. The mannequin is operated through a simulator, which is controlled wirelessly from a nearby laptop. It gives the operator complete control over the patient's environment. The technology provides virtually a limitless variety of scenarios for medical personnel to train with. The natural disaster exercise was done in conjunction with the California Statewide Medical and Health Training Exercise Program Dec. 16. Hospitals and schools around the state participated in earthquake and disaster drills to test and train on response capabilities. (U.S. Air Force photo by Kenji Thuloweit)
