Ruck march

Science Carnival 2011

Branch Elementary students make paper helicopters under the direction of Mickey Bowen, Air Force Flight Test Center Engineering Flight Test Outreach lead. Mr. Bowen taught the students how a helicopter flies. After they folded their papers into a helicopter shape the students dropped them to see how they twirled to ground. A bobcat displays its kill after running down a rabbit on base. Bobcats typically prey on various rodents and small birds, but are capable of taking down animals as large as deer. When an urban area like base housing has readily available water and food sources, bobcats and other wild animals will enter neighborhoods to obtain food, posing a danger to pets and people. Lily, a dachshund and base pet, recovers nicely after an encounter with a bobcat in her own backyard. The bobcat, which has become too comfortable around base housing areas, leapt over 1st Lt. Timothy Pierce’s backyard wall in Tamarisk Plains and attacked Lily before being scared off. An airman from the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School playfully puts a whipped cream pie in the face of Col. Noel Zamot, TPS commandant. Sports Day participants had a chance to wrap up their morning with a pie-in-the-face contest where 25 cents bought a vote to put a pie in the face of a fellow Airman. “Sports Day brings us together and allows us to intermingle,” said Airman 1st Class Ronald Jones, 418th Flight Test Squadron aviation resource management. “I’m really glad today happened. Without the luxury of a vehicle to do the work for them, Airmen were challenged to flip a tire five times in one direction, only to turn around and flip it five more times in the other direction.
