A successful Endeavor

The space shuttle Endeavor touches down on Edwards' runway 04-left at approximately 1:25 p.m. Nov. 30. This is the 52nd time NASA has been required to use Edwards as its alternate landing site. In preperation for this, the base is required to conduct two exercises a year by Human Space Flight to ensure the base's capabilities to support a shuttle landing meets NASA's standards. EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Air Force loadmasters oversee the unloading of the full-scale Orion abort test crew module mockup from a C-17 Globemaster III cargo aircraft here March 28. Air Force transfers two early Global Hawks to NASA

EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Two Northrop Grumman Global Hawk Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration aircraft were recently transferred from the U.S. Air Force to NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center here. Initial research activities beginning in 2009 will support NASA's Airborne Science Program. The ability of the unmanned Global Hawk aircraft to autonomously fly long distances and remain aloft for extended periods brings a new capability to the science community for measuring, monitoring and observing remote locations of the Earth. The two Global Hawks were the first and sixth aircraft built under the original development program sponsored by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, and were made available to NASA when the Air Force had no further need for them. CAP offers volunteer opportunities to youth, adults

Civil Air Patrol cadets meet former Apollo 11 astronaut, Buzz Aldrin, at a recent Lancaster Jethawks game. The cadets also presented the colors during opening ceremonies. As a non-auxiliary organization with the Air Force, Civil Air Patrol follows a form of military structure. The cadets participate in activities such as drill and formation, reciting the Cadet Oath, Honor Code and Safety Code as well as learn their chain of command.
