A Recall on recent Impact Aid Cards

EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. --  On Oct. 1, 2013, Muroc Joint Unified School District released the Federal Impact Aid Cards, a day earlier to their students, in anticipation and response to the looming 2013 government shutdown. Unfortunately, a large number of these Impact Aid Cards are being returned to the school sites due to the fact that there is a date error that needs to be corrected. Parents are being contacted from the school sites to make changes to the date and initial the correction on these cards by Friday, Jan. 17, 2014. The school office hours are open between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
 
Impact Aid is a federal program administered through the Department of Education and is for both military and Department of Defense civilian families with children in the local school district. The surveys are used to determine the total number of federally-connected students in the local education agencies (LEA). It is an in-lieu-of-tax program and is designed to assist local school districts that have lost property tax revenue due to the presence of tax-exempt federal property or that have experienced increased expenditures due to the enrollment of federally connected children. Unlike most other forms of education assistance, Impact Aid disburses directly to local school districts rather than through state agencies.

It is important that parents support their child's school system by completing these Federal Impact Aid Surveys and returning these forms in the timeframe that the schools are requesting them. Filling out this information card is crucial to being able to qualify for this funding. Taking the time to fill the cards out and returning them is one tangible way you can ensure local children are provided the highest quality of education available to them. This aid benefits the children and the community and to not complete the survey means less money for our public school districts, and consequently, fewer resources for our military-connected children's schools. Although the Federal Impact Aid does not cover the full costs of educating military connected students, it is important to help our students get 100 percent of our federally-connected families to complete the Impact Aid Survey.
