Tax time is here again and the Edwards VITA Tax Center will be open for business starting Feb. 3!

The Tax Center offers free tax preparation and services for active duty service members, retirees, eligible dependents, and reservists on active duty orders. The Tax Center is staffed by volunteers who are certified to prepare returns by both the IRS and the California Franchise Tax Board.

This year, the Tax Center will be open from Feb. 3 to April 9.

Just as a reminder, the following things are considered outside the scope of the VITA program:

- If you own more than one rental property
- Participation in day-trading of stocks
- If you own/operate a small business with inventory/employees
- If you own farm property

Other issues will be considered on a case by case basis.

The Tax Center is located at 1100 Kincheloe Ave. Hours starting Feb. 3 are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Appointments can be made beginning Jan. 27. Please call (661) 275-ETAX or the legal office at (661) 277-4310 to schedule an appointment. When you make an appointment, you will be told what information and forms to bring with you to your appointment.

IMPORTANT NOTE: THE TAX CENTER WILL NOT BE PROVIDING PAPER COPIES OF RETURNS THIS YEAR. COPIES OF RETURNS WILL ONLY BE AVAILABLE ELECTRONICALLY.

Call Capt. Nicholas Reyes at (661) 277-9660 for more information.
