Edwards FC looks forward after rough tourney last month Published May 20, 2014 By Maj. Oscar Corredor 412th Aerospace Medicine Squadron NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- Conditions were perfect in Las Vegas April 25 to 27 for the annual Nellis Air Force Base Cup Soccer Tournament. With temps in the low 70s, overcast sky and mild winds, Edwards Football Club took to the field like a lion in search of prey. The prey was the net at the back of the goal and the team hunted with all its might. The Edwards F.C. played its best and dominated the field against the Nellis AFB and Ft. Irwin teams, but ultimately lost each of the four games played. Regardless of the results, the team did not come empty handed as we learned valuable lessons and our goalie, Julie Clark, was selected as the MVP of the tournament! Edwards F.C. is currently preparing for the Antelope Futbol League's summer session and will start playing at the Lancaster National Soccer Center every Saturday morning beginning June 21. The team is also preparing for its second appearance at the top military soccer tournament in the nation, the Defender's Cup, to be played Labor Day Weekend in San Antonio, Texas. The team wants to express its gratitude to the Edwards Officers Spouses Club for the generous donations and continued support during these times of military budgetary constraints. The team also wants to thank Pete Smith and Kristen Heidle at the Rosburg Fitness Center, and Kenneth Castex and the Child Development Center for coordinating transportation for the team to and from Nellis AFB. Edwards F.C. holds practices Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5 p.m. at Wings Field. Practices are open to all active duty, family members, civilian employees and their dependents.
