Congressman Kevin McCarthy May 22 announced that seven of the students that he nominated from the 23rd Congressional District will attend one of the United States Service Academies in the fall.

Of those seven, Tyler Myers of Desert High School has been selected to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy. Myers is a member of the DHS JROTC and a resident of California City.

"I want to congratulate the young people in our community who will attend one of the United States Service Academies this fall," said Congressman McCarthy. "I look forward to seeing these outstanding individuals excel in their respective academies, and I am proud that they will be among the bright future leaders that will help defend our nation. Their hard work and willingness to serve our country serve as an inspiration to all of the members of our community."

The U.S. Service Academies are among the most highly respected and rigorous educational programs in the nation. The academies are looking for well-rounded young men and women who have demonstrated character, academic excellence, physical aptitude, and have served in leadership positions within their school and community. Graduates will receive a Bachelor of Science degree and a commission as an officer in the uniformed services.
