Edwards, Corvias Military Living, break ground on new community center Published July 7, 2014 By Edwards AFB Housing Office and Mark Nettles, Corvias Military Living EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Corvias Military Living, an affiliate of Corvias Group, and Edwards Air Force Base held a groundbreaking ceremony July 8 to celebrate the start of construction of a 10,000 square-foot community center, which will be utilized by families living on base. Brig. Gen. Michael T. Brewer, 412th Test Wing commander; Chief Master Sgt. Brian D. Randolph, 412th TW Command Chief; James Judkins, base civil engineer and Jeanette White, Housing Management Branch chief; joined J.C. Calder, Corvias Military Living program manager at Edwards AFB and Heath Burleson, Corvias Military Living senior vice president and program director to celebrate the occasion. The community center will serve more than 700 residents of all ages. It will be located off of Fitzgerald Blvd. across from Chapel 2. The facility will include an indoor basketball court, workout facilities, children's play room, a themed clubroom, and a multipurpose room which can be reserved by families for parties or events. The center will also boast a 5,000 square-foot outdoor swimming pool with walk-in access, water features and changing rooms. Construction is scheduled to be complete next summer. "This center will be the gem of our community. Airmen and their families will have a place to relax, entertain or blow off steam away from the stresses of military life," said Burleson. "We're proud to give something back in our partnership with the Air Force." Corvias has partnered with the U.S. Air Force to renovate and modernize 522 homes at Edwards over the next five years as well as provide customer service and maintenance for 50 years. The renovations will include multiple upgrades to homes such as upgraded light fixtures, flooring, landscaping, repairs to or replacement of appliances and much more. Under the terms of the partnership, Corvias will revitalize, manage and maintain on-base housing for the Air Force's Continental Group, a collection of six installations across the country consisting of Edwards , Eielson AFB, Alaska, McConnell AFB, Kan., Seymour Johnson AFB, N.C., Eglin AFB, Fla., and Hurlburt Field, Fla. Corvias engaged in this 50-year partnership in September 2013 to improve the on-base housing and provide amenities that Airmen and their families deserve through a total development budget of $453 million.
