Webb takes over as new TPS commandant Published July 24, 2014 By Rebecca Amber Staff writer EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- In a traditional Air Force ceremony July 24, Col. Charles Webb Jr. became the new commandant of the United States Air Force Test Pilot School. As a graduate of TPS, Webb returns to Edwards from Holloman Air Force Base, N.M., where he commanded the 96th Test Group. As commandant of TPS, he will be responsible for the graduate-level education of the Airmen as they earn the rating of experimental test pilots, flight test navigators and flight test engineers. TPS is a 150-person unit, which operates the largest flying operation at the Air Force Test Center. Webb has served as an experimental test pilot in all blocks of the F-16 and commanded a test group and flight test squadron as chief of Wing Safety. He has operational experience in the F-16 Fighting Falcon and as an instructor in the T-37 Tweet. At the U.S. Army's Joint Readiness Training Center, he served as brigade air liaison officer. He has 2,500 flight hours and is qualified in over 30 aircraft.
