Tobacco cessation in-person group classes Published Aug. 7, 2014 By 412th Medical Group EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Quitting tobacco use can be an uphill battle, but fortunately there are resources to help you overcome this battle. The Health and Wellness Center at Edwards AFB offers confidential small group cessation classes based on the American Cancer Society's "Freshstart" program. The program runs for three consecutive weeks and is facilitated by a former tobacco user. The classes are offered free-of-charge to all active duty, reservist/guard, retired military personnel, their family members, DOD civilians and contractors. However, the Nicotine Replacement Therapy products are available only to Tricare beneficiaries (active duty military members, retirees and their families). DOD civilians interested in attending the classes can request excused absence under "wellness activities" per Air Force Guidance Memorandum to AFI 36-815, Absence and Leave, dated April 8, 2014. Upon enrollment, each participant will receive a consultation with their provider, who will help choose the nicotine replacement therapy that is right for you. To enroll, contact the HAWC at (661) 275-HAWC, or email 412AMDS.HAWC@us.af.mil. Classes are held on Tuesdays at noon in building 2204 next to the Rosburg Fitness Center.
