Fire Department teaches fire prevention to Branch Elementary students Published Oct. 7, 2014 By Rebecca Amber Staff writer EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The Edwards AFB Fire Department celebrated Fire Prevention Week at Branch Elementary School Oct. 7. Throughout the day, classes were invited to tour the fire safety trailer, which simulates fire hazards in the home and teaches them how to respond in the event of a house fire. The trailer also stresses the importance of home escape planning by allowing the children to "evacuate" from a balcony when smoke fills the upstairs room. Following the evacuation, students were met by Sparky the Fire Dog who passed out plastic firefighter hats and bags of goodies filled with stickers and coloring books. The Edwards Fire Department will be visiting areas around base to promote Fire Prevention Week 2014 throughout the week.
