Learn sign language on Deaf Day Published Oct. 8, 2014 By Rebecca Amber Staff writer EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Disability Employment Awareness Month is hosting Deaf Day events Oct. 14 and 15. The events start with a brown bag luncheon for senior leaders, supervisors, hiring managers and co-workers and deaf or hard of hearing employees. At the luncheon, participants will learn how current and future deaf employees can work as well as hearing employees when they are properly accommodated. The following day, a basic American Sign Language instruction will be offered to all base personnel in the Galaxy Room at the Airman and Family Readiness Center. This is an opportunity to learn how to better communicate with deaf employees and gain a broader understating of deaf culture. The final event that afternoon is an American Sign Language storytelling at the Child Development Center's Youth Annex for first grade students. Upcoming Disability Employment Awareness Month events: Oct. 14: Brown Bag Luncheon at Bldg. 2750, Room 242, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The luncheon will be held in conjunction with a VTC with DOD Computer/Electronics Accessibility Program reps.
