Join Edwards AFB and the American Cancer Society in observing the Great American Smokeout Nov. 20.

All employees are invited to join in this observance, by setting a quit day, or by supporting your colleagues on this day.

Statistics show that the majority of people who smoke want to quit. If you are among the population of tobacco users who want to make a change, we encourage you to join your peers and others across the country on November 20.

By not smoking, even for one day, you'll see a reduction in your blood pressure and heart rate and the amount of carbon monoxide in your bloodstream normalize, all within the first 12 hours. As time passes, your circulation and lung function will improve substantially, and you'll decrease your risk for lung cancer, coronary heart disease and other serious health issues.

Put yourself on a path for success by preparing for your quit day, November 20, with these 4 steps:

1. COMMIT TO QUIT.
Clear your calendar around your quit day so you can keep your focus and manage temptation.

2. STOCK UP.
Toss your cigarettes and lighters, and stock up on sugar‐free gum or crunchy vegetable sticks.

3. GET SUPPORT.
Tell your friends, family and coworkers of your plan so they can support you.

4. TALK TO A PROFESSIONAL.
Call 661-275-HAWC (4292) to ask about options to help you stay quit.

The time to prepare is now. Mark your calendar for Nov. 20 and COMMIT TO QUIT!
