Project84: Keep those cost saving ideas coming for 2015

As Team Edwards begins 2015, the 412th Test Wing is leading a new drive for Project84 ideas.

The wing had outstanding Project 84 participation from the base populace in 2014. Every submitted idea was reviewed and given careful consideration by base leadership.

Brig. Gen. Michael Brewer, 412th Test Wing commander, first introduced Project84 after determining that if everyone on base were able to find ways to save $84 each month, it would ultimately save an excess of $11 million annually.

Project84 is incorporated into the FY15 Test Wing Action Plan as "Objective 4.2: Establish Aggressive Efficiency Campaign" to provide a mechanism for our innovative individuals in the wing the opportunity to implement their creative ideas.

In all, Project84 received more than 400 idea submissions last year. Many of the submissions that were reviewed in 2014 shared similar themes such as incorporating automatic hand dryers in bathrooms, utilizing more solar power, xeriscaping, reducing printing and motion sensor activated lighting, which were all aimed at reducing consumption materials, water and electricity. Although many of the approved ideas will require some time before cost savings are realized, efforts such as xeriscaping and printer "right sizing" have had an immediate impact on the budget.

Leadership is continuously seeking new ways to advance process improvement at Edwards AFB. A coordinated effort is underway by the 412th Test Wing Plans and Programs Office and the 412th Communications Squadron to make Project84 more automated and user-friendly. This will help to improve the review process for the wing while increasing visibility of the decision-making process for those who submit their ideas.

Members of the Edwards community are highly encouraged to continue sharing creative ideas that can lead to potential cost savings and are asked to review previous submissions prior submitting ideas to Project84 to minimize redundancy.

To submit your ideas to Project84, e-mail them to project84@us.af.mil or click on the Project84 icon at the bottom taskbar of your work computer. The Edwards home page, www.edwards.af.mil, also has an icon you can click on to submit an idea.
