ASMC awards season in progress Published Feb. 4, 2015 By Rebecca Amber Staff writer EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The American Society of Military Comptrollers awards season has begun and the deadlines to submit applications are quickly approaching. ASMC is a non-profit educational and professional organization for military and civilian personnel involved in the overall field of military comptrollership. The national achievement award submissions were due Feb. 2, but there is still time to be nominated for the chapter awards. The Chapter Leadership Award, which is due April 10, was awarded to 412th Test Wing budget analyst Rebecca Pritchett last year. The Chapter Leadership Award is given in recognition of individuals who demonstrated outstanding and continuous leadership based on accomplishments and contributions to the chapter. Pritchett has been an Air Force civilian at Edwards AFB for just over 12 years. She started out as an auditor for the Air Force Audit Agency in 2002 before becoming a budget analyst in 2007. Pritchett is a Certified Internal Auditor, a Certified Government Auditing Professional and a Certified Defense Financial Manager with Acquisition Specialty. She has also served on the ASMC High Desert Chapter board of directors. Pritchett was selected for the award at the chapter and national level after several fellow board members submitted a write-up that they worked on together. She was one of only two chapter leaders to be selected at the national level. "I have put in a lot of hard work during my own personal time to the chapter over the years. I've seen the completion of several big projects, including re-applying for our tax-exempt status, revamping our chapter website and establishing a chapter SharePoint site," said Pritchett. "I was very touched to see that so many people came together to formally show their appreciation for all my hard work. It meant a lot to know that my efforts mattered. Then to see that I was being recognized not only at the local level, but also at the national level - it was amazing." Pritchett received the chapter-level award at the ASMC High Desert Chapter Mini Professional Development Institute April 30, 2014, at Edwards AFB. The national-level award was presented a month later in Seattle, Washington. "To know that so many people came together to make sure I was recognized - it really made all that effort worth it." As a previous recipient of the award, Pritchett encourages others who would like to receive the chapter leadership award to "put forth the extra mile, work hard and do something that makes a difference to the chapter." That might be accomplished by re-starting the chapter newsletters again and making them "spectacular" or by volunteering to fill some of the vacant positions and then accomplishing something that hasn't been done before. "Being a part of the High Desert Chapter of the American Society of Military Comptrollers is more than just attending monthly training opportunities. It's about networking and working together to do good for others. That may sound cliché, but it's true," said Pritchett. Because of ASMC, Pritchett has had the opportunity to connect with other members of the Financial Management career field. She works for the test wing but has developed professional working relationships with personnel from the 412th Comptroller Squadron and Air Force Test Center. "Getting to know other people really does help when doing your day-to-day job. You encounter something you haven't dealt with before; you now have a whole arsenal of resources you can just pick up the phone and call." ASMC has also given her an opportunity to "do good for others" by serving on the scholarship committee. "Having received a variety of scholarships when I went to college, it is very neat to be on the other side of the application process. Knowing that what I do makes a difference to others is personally rewarding." Visit http://www.asmconline.org/ for more information on ASMC and awards.
