Friends and family said 'good bye' to Women's Air Force Service Pilot, Flora Belle Smith Reece at her memorial service Feb. 7. During the service, Brig. Gen. Dawn Dunlop, former 412th Test Wing commander, and Lt. Col. Andrew Allen, 461st Flight Test Squadron commander, shared their memories of the WWII pilot.

Dunlop, who is now stationed at the Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, shared her gratitude for the WASPs, who paved the way for her to become an F-22 Raptor fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force. Allen told stories about Reece's independent nature and her love and care for children.

During the graveside service, The Edwards AFB Blue Eagles Honor Guard presented Reece's daughter, Connie Fox and her son Russell Reece, with an American flag. The graveside service held at the Lancaster Cemetery in the Military Court of Honor took place in front of the WASP memorial, which was dedicated in 2011. Both Reece and Dunlop had spoken at the dedication just a few years ago.

Reece was interred at the Lancaster Cemetery following the service.
