Edwards Antiterrorism Office provides tools for social media security Published March 24, 2015 By Edwards AFB Antiterrorism Office EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- In recent months, there has been a rise in the targeting of military members and their families on social media sites. It is important to remember that on the internet people are not always who they say they are. Nefarious actors that wish to harm or defraud others for their personal gains or objectives commonly develop personas to friend and or develop relationships that they can use or exploit. It is important to have security not only on your social media site, but also on those that are associated to your accounts. A lot of information can be easily obtained through the sites of our friends and loved ones when they leave the proverbial door wide open. Through simple security minded techniques such as disabling location settings, locking down who can see your site and removing personal information that can be exploited, will discourage those bad actors from targeting your sites. For more helpful security features, unit antiterrorism officers and representatives have been provided social media security cards, which you can come pick up at the Edwards Antiterrorism Office. In the photo box here, you may download or view the cards by clicking on "Download HiRes."
