The Edwards AFB Library celebrated National Library Week April 15 with an action-packed open house. Master Sgt. Joshua Mullen, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Detachment 3, kicked things off by reading "Library Lily" and "A Library Book for Bear." Special guest Eddy Coyote, the 412th Force Support Squadron mascot, joined the children in a game of "pin the book on the library."

In the next room, Tehachapi resident Debbie Martin, sang to background tracks as children danced. Nearby, her original artwork was on display. The open house was not Martin's first appearance at the library, or in the Air force. Years ago, she served in the Air Force as an electronic warfare specialist.

"The library was such an important part of my life growing up. I grew up in a tiny town in Kentucky and I still remember the library," said Martin. "It was an old house that had been converted. I spent some of the happiest days of my life reading books in there."

The library not only offers resources for Airmen pursuing their education, but for the whole family. There are books, movies and even a science center for the children. Twice a week, the library staff hosts story time and every month a different local artist's work is featured on the library walls.

The library staff is currently reminding families that sign-ups for the summer reading program start June 5.

The base library is open six days a week:

Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Tuesday and Thursday 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Saturday 10:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.
