Conserve today, secure tomorrow. That's this year's theme for Earth Day, which reminds people to be responsible with the Earth's resources. Edwards AFB Environmental Management partnered with Corvias Military Housing to share that message at the Base Exchange April 22.

People who visited the BX had the chance to win prizes and learn about recycling and carpooling. Biologists and archeologists were on hand to answer questions about the base environment and its animal inhabitants.

"The base is around 407,000 acres and just a small part of it is developed. Our office is responsible for making sure the rest of it is protected," said Patti Kumazawa, Environmental Management, marketing and communications professional. "We only have one planet and we need to take care of it because we can't replace it."

According to Kumazawa, the base has a huge conservation program. Part of that is working with the 412th Civil Engineering Group to recycle materials used by the organizations on base. She added that the recycling center can accept more items than most, including Styrofoam.

Personnel and residents can also use the recycling center for items like bottles and cans.
