Team Edwards members humble themselves, pray on National Day of Prayer Published May 7, 2015 By Rebecca Amber Staff writer EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Men and women at Edwards gathered around the flag pole in front of Bldg. 1 early May 7 to bow their heads in prayer. For the last 64 years, the first Thursday in May has been dedicated as the National Day of Prayer. This year's theme, "Lord, Hear Our Cry," is aimed at "emphasizing the need for individuals corporately and individually to place their faith in the unfailing character of their Creator, who is sovereign over all governments, authorities and men," according to the National Day of Prayer website. "It gives us an opportunity as people from diverse backgrounds, especially here on a military base, to come together and recognize folks in the flightline, finance office, headquarters office; are all people of faith and we want to make a difference in our nation," said Chaplain Maj. Jason Knudeson, 412th Test Wing, calling it an, "act of solidarity and hope." They prayed for the world and for the nation and for the military, families and forgiveness. They prayed in the words of 1 Kings 8:30, "Hear the plea of your servant and of your people...O hear in heaven your dwelling place; heed and forgive." And when they had said their last amen, they stood at attention for Reveille, ready to start the day. "It's about reminding people the power of prayer and the importance of prayer," said Knudeson. "This is almost a symbolic event showing that these people gather, 50 or so this morning, are the public expression of the hundreds of thousands that are praying regularly."
