Team Edwards hosts Military Retiree Appreciation Day

EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Approximately 400 military retirees, their families and surviving spouses were invited to attend the 2015 Military Retiree Appreciation Day event held at the Oasis Community Center May 16.

"The event really shines the spotlight on our local retiree population in order to thank them for their service," said 1st Lt. Michael Estacion, 412th Medical Group practice manager.

Unlike last year's event, the 412th Test Wing and Edwards Retiree Activities Office decided to add another location to host the services and information booths, which included the Rosburg Fitness Center. This allowed attendees with more seating room at the Oasis Community Center.

"We had 27 information booths that were set up throughout the fitness center basketball court with breakout sessions that occurred throughout the morning," said Estacion. "Each breakout session was used to discuss the latest information regarding medical issues and benefits, Veterans Affairs, TRICARE and United Healthcare, legal services, dental and Casualty Affairs information."

Along with information booths, Estacion said that free lunches, approximately four pallets worth, and food giveaways were provided by the Defense Commissary Agency.

According to Estacion, more than 15 organizations and agencies assisted with the event.

"These organizations not only assisted with the set up, but provided attendees with information about the Edwards Retirees Activities Office, the Immunizations Clinic, the pharmacy, the legal office, ID Card services, TRICARE, Delta Dental, USAA and many more," Estacion said.

During the event, performances were held by Jennifer Housholder and the Ka Ohana O Keolanani's Hula Halau dance troupe.
