Sesame Street, USO returning to Edwards Published June 1, 2016 By Kenji Thuloweit 412th Test Wing Public Affairs EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Do you know how to get to Sesame Street? Here's how, come on down June 14 to the Oasis Community Center for two shows brought to base by Sesame Street/USO Experience for Military Families. Show times will be 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the Stripes Lounge and is open to the Edwards AFB community. Everybody's favorite Sesame Street characters will be on hand including Elmo, Grover, Cookie Monster, Rosita and Katie - a military character designed exclusively for military families. Sesame Street and USO are addressing the challenges of military-to-civilian transition by debuting a brand new 30-minute character performance, while simultaneously running their popular show "Katie is Moving to a New Base." Their newest installment, "Katie's Family Transitions to Civilian Life," will feature new songs, choreography and messages of support. In the new show, military families are taken on a journey as Katie starts a new adventure outside of the military with the assurance that her family and all of her Sesame Street pals are there to support her throughout the transition. While there are many changes coming, there are a lot of happy moments and discoveries for Katie and her friends. Both shows will run as part of the 2016 Sesame Street/USO Experience for Military Families, which is scheduled to perform more than 160 shows at 50 military bases in the U.S. through October. The Sesame Street/USO Experience for Military Families made its debut in July 2008 and has taken its message to more than half a million troops and military families around the world. February 4 marked the USO's 75th anniversary and the official kick off of a yearlong celebration around the world. The Sesame Street/USO tour's six-month long run throughout the U.S. is part of the celebration.
