With winter in the rearview mirror, Team Edwards is preparing to roll up its sleeves for the annual "Spring Clean-Up Week," scheduled for April 20-24. The base-wide effort aims to clear away winter debris, improve the installation's appearance and reduce potential fire hazards.

Col. Tom Tauer, 412th Test Wing commander, has called on all Edwards community to contribute to the clean-up effort.

"The accumulation of trash is not only an eyesore but also increases fire hazard potential," said Maicol Rivas-Miranda, 412th Civil Engineer Squadron, explaining the importance of the event. "Our strong winds create large accumulations of trash, brush and other debris. It is important that each of us take time to do our part in cleaning up the areas where we live and work."

To support the effort, facility managers can pick up supplies like trash bags and rakes from the 412th Civil Engineer Group U-Fix-It Store in Bldg. 3500. The store is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and can be reached at 661-277-5620.

Arrangements for large item disposal can be made by contacting the 412th CEG Requirements and Optimization Office at 661-277-3330. For questions about hazardous materials such as paint, chemicals, or batteries, personnel should call the HAZMAT Pharmacy at 661-277-0128.

For those in base housing, the regular trash, recycling, and bulk trash pick-up will continue every Friday. Residents can simply place bulk items curbside with their regular containers. Mayroad Housing is available for questions at 661-385-6060.

Beyond just tidying up, the clean-up week also offers opportunities to recycle and donate. The Base Landfill in Bldg. 7900 serves as a state-certified redemption center, reimbursing CRV deposits on aluminum, glass, and plastic containers. It also accepts non-CRV recyclables like cardboard and paper.

Finally, community members are encouraged to give reusable household items a second life by donating them to the Airman’s Attic or the base Thrift Store.
