(Photo by Michael Sparks) The Civil Air Patrol is recruiting new members to support its missions in aerospace education, emergency services, and youth development for its unit located at Edwards Air Force Base. The program is open to cadets ages 12 to 18 and senior members ages 21 and older. The Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, has three primary missions: aerospace education, emergency services and cadet programs. The aerospace education mission promotes science, technology, engineering, and math through aircraft orientation flights, cybersecurity competitions, and other hands-on activities. The emergency services mission is responsible for 90 percent of the nation's inland search and rescue operations and provides disaster relief for events such as wildfires and floods. The cadet programs develop leadership, discipline, and teamwork skills in youth members. Cadets advance at their own pace and are responsible for leading many of their own activities under the supervision of senior members. "Civil Air Patrol offers a unique opportunity for individuals to make a significant impact on themselves and their communities," said CAP Maj. Adam Staley. "Whether you are a young person interested in aviation or an adult who wants to serve, this program provides a path to grow and contribute." The squadron meets every Thursday, 5 – 7 p.m. at the Airman Leadership School, building 2459, located at 148 Methusa Rd. For more information, contact Maj. Adam Staley at Adam.Staley@cawgcap.org.
