The 95th Air Base Wing Civil Engineer and Transportation Directorate is in the process of renovating Club Muroc kitchen.

When completed in June, the kitchen will sport a new dishwashing machine and salad bar. A walk-in refrigerator and freezer will also be provided with this project.

"Prior to the kitchen renovation, the kitchen sewer system was not functioning well due to a corroded pipe system," said Jake Misirian, civil engineer project manager. "In addition, much of the kitchen equipment was old and unreliable. Electrical panels did not meet building codes and needed to be upgraded."

There were also frequent interruptions of kitchen functionality because of sewer stoppage and electrical circuit system problems, he said.

Club Muroc kitchen renovations are a collection of several facility requirements.

"A request was received from the 95th Services Division to repair the kitchen sewer system, and after a thorough survey, new requirements were identified," Mr. Misirian said.

Currently asbestos is being removed from the kitchen area, said Ignacio Carmona, on-site supervisor for Midwest Environmental Control, which is a subcontractor with the ACE Engineer contract. Once that is complete a hygienist will perform a final clearance to ensure the asbestos is completely eliminated.

A demolition crew will remove the kitchen's concrete floor to pave way for electrical wirings and the construction of new plumbing, Mr. Misirian said. Then the installation of the new equipment will proceed.

"The purpose of the renovation is to give Club Muroc a modern and efficient kitchen to provide better food services to the Edwards community," he said.

During the renovation period, both Fogleman and Pancho's Lounges will remain open and will be serving a limited menu. Other dining alternatives include the Cactus Café, Oasis Pizza and Deli, Strike Zone snack bar, Sandbagger Grill and Subway.
