Sarah Saunders, 95th Contracting Squadron contract specialist, received the award for the period of October 2005 to September 2006. Ms. Saunders units' primary goal is to deliver great customer service, to define and improve processes and to be accountable. Their mission is to provide the 95th Air Base Wing and its associates with business advice and a wide range of contracting services. Ms. Saunders administered $35 million in Base Supply Contracts and enhanced the base recreational services with more than $80,000. Ms. Saunders is involved with the 24-hour nurse line, which gives advice to 10,000 military, dependants and retirees on-and off-base. She has also volunteered time as an augmentee for the Air Force Flight Test Center Inspector General. "In the procurement career field, there are many different types of acquisitions," Ms. Saunders said. " I have worked in several different areas working different types of procurements. This has given me a broad area of experience versus limiting my experience to one area, therefore allowing me to work in a variety of areas and to do a variety of things." Ms. Saunders contributes her off-duty time to the American Cancer Society Walk for Life, with which she raised $1,500, said Cathi Cleveland, 95th Contracting Squadron acting-director. "She sets the example for all," Ms. Cleveland said. "She displays an awesome execution in everything she does, and continues to look for new ways to improve processes around the base." By winning this award, Ms. Saunders said she hopes to encourage and let newer employees in the acquisition field believe that their work is important, and that they do have opportunities to be recognized for their achievements.
