New relocation tool for servicemembers, families replaces SITES Published May 10, 2007 By Senior Airman Jason Hernandez 95th Air Base Wing Public Affairs EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- A new relocation tool recently became available to servicemembers and their families Air Force wide. The Plan My Move program is replacing the Standard Installation Topic Exchange Service system, which has been in use since 1989 for assistance with permanent change of station moves. "For the past decade, the Defense Manpower Data Center has managed the relocation automation system called SITES," said Al Greer, community readiness consultant at the Airman Family Readiness Center here. "With Plan My Move, families get the next generation of automated relocation tools. This allowed SITES to be retired as of April 30." In the past, people had to visit the Airmen Family Readiness Center to get the information they needed for a move, said Tech. Sgt. David Ah Sing, a readiness noncommissioned officer at the center. Later, the process evolved into SITES. "SITES has evolved into the contracted Department of Defense site, which is Militaryonesource.com," Sergeant Ah Sing said. "As a result, individuals don't need a common access card. Individuals can log onto any home computer and use it." Sergeant Ah Sing said one of the problems with the older systems was inconsistent information updates, which resulted in out of date point of contact information. Plan My Move, a program featured on Militaryonesource.com, requires much less effort from installation relocation managers, which will allow them more time for individual counseling and support, Mr. Greer said. "As a consultant, I will still update information in relation to Edwards," Mr. Greer said. "However, as it relates to the Air Force, this system will enable us to keep all of the information up to date. These customizable and interactive tools will provide predictable, high-quality information and resources to help our servicemembers more effectively manage moves. The system is more up to date and more hands on for the client." Anyone enrolled in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System can go online and use Plan My Move, Mr. Greer said. "With the higher rate of deployments, spouses and family may have to move while the servicemember is gone," Sergeant Ah Sing said. "That's why the Plan My Move system is available to them as well. One of the biggest keys to Militaryonesource.com is that it's accessible to different folks." Sergeant Ah Sing said all other branches of service are using this program as well. "It's a DoD program rather than just an Air Force program," Sergeant Ah Sing said. "With the joint service missions and Airmen going to other services' bases, it's important to have a program run by the DoD."
