Edwards pets -- big and tall, short and small, skinny, fat and furry -- received their chance to shine during the pet show held at the Base Exchange parking lot Saturday.

The show was one of the many different activities set up for the pets and their owners during the third annual Bark in the Parking Lot.

The 95th Mission Support and Services Squadron, Army Air Force Exchange Service and the Commissary teamed up to host the event.

"Bark in the Parking lot is a very beneficial event," said Terry Stegman, Oasis Community Center director. "It offers a wide variety of information to pet owners as well as providing a good time for the family."

During the event, pet owners had the opportunity to learn about the different aspects of caring for their pets.

The American Red Cross, Adopt-a-Pet, Environmental Management and Edwards' Veterinary Clinic provided information on animal health and safety, pet adoption and local desert wildlife.

Although the day was primarily filled with canines, there were appearances by felines, snakes and lizards.

The pets had the chance to participate in at least one of the many categories for the pet show.

Some of the categories included cutest, biggest, smallest, best dressed, worst dressed, look alike and most unique pets. Other activities included paw painting, the loudest human barker and best in show.

Bark in the Parking lot provides a good way for pet owners and their pets to participate in events, win awards and socialize all at the same time, said Vickie Smith, Edwards Base Exchange general manager.

"I love the event because I am a pet lover myself," she said. "I like to look at all the pets and how they dress up."

Bark in the Parking lot is a great event because it reaches people who have a common interest and love for animals, Mrs. Stegman said.
