The 95th Medical Group hosted a men's health fair at the medical clinic's lobby Tuesday in an effort to increase awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection of disease among men.

The men's health fair featured booths that provided information on prevention, healthy living, the need to take care of one's body and different agencies available for Edwards community.

The men's health fair kicked off with a 3K fun run at the Rosburg Fitness Center track.

"The fair aims to focus more on awareness," said Maj. William Coleman, 95th Medical Group health care integrator. "We need to get the word out about the importance of taking care of ourselves."

Various organizations from on and off base participated in the event.

Tricare demonstrated gaining access to members' benefits information through the Tricare Web site. The Red Cross was on hand about the services they provide while Pfizer provided information about the medicines they manufacture.

The Health and Wellness Center had information about nutrition, physical fitness and tobacco cessation. They also reminded participants about minimizing risk factors and disease prevention by lowering cholesterol, weight, blood sugar and blood pressure.

"We are here to make sure every one know about healthy diet, what types of food they need to eat and the importance of exercising," said Amy Nelms, HAWC dietitian.

The Airman and Family Readiness Center presented the different programs they offer. Meanwhile, the Drug Demand Reduction reminded the attendees about the effects of alcohol and drugs to one's body. The dental clinic also gave tips on proper dental care while the physical therapist gave information on exercising techniques.

Capt. Jason Hasker, 417th Flight Test Squadron test engineer, said the event was informative.

"It was a very good event to attend," he said. "They have a lot of information. For example, I run a lot and the physical therapist had great information to offer. I would recommend the event to my troops."

Major Coleman said there was a lot of preparation put into this event, from setting up the clinic to accommodate the attendees to having organizations commit to this event.

"I am satisfied with the outcome of the event," Major Coleman said. "I hope we can do this again."
