Top 3 dodges loss against Airman's Council Published Feb. 27, 2008 By Airman 1st Class William O'Brien 95th Air Base Wing Public Affairs EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The Edwards Top 3 proved they truly are on top after defeating the Edwards Airman's Council, 4-2, during a dodgeball tournament at the Rosburg Fitness Center here Feb. 22. The purpose of the dodgeball tournament was to raise money for the Airman's Council and build morale. "The event was great because it brought Airmen from all units around the base together," said Airman 1st Class Nancy Rouse, 95th Mission Support and Services Squadron officers promotion technician. "We also received a check of $100 from the Top 3 toward our Airman's Council funds." In the first game of the tournament, the Airman's Council thoroughly beat the Top 3, but the momentum shifted as the Top 3 defeated the Airman's Council three consecutive times. In an attempt to save their chance to win, the Airman's Council pulled off a win to narrow the gap. However, the Top 3 showed their real strength defeating the Airman's Council in the sixth and final game, winning the tournament. "The dodgeball tournament was successful in building morale and team unity, two fundamental keys to success on any military installation," said Master Sgt.Wil Hoffman, 95th MSSS career advisor. Despite losing, the tournament gave Airmen an opportunity to interact with Senior NCOs, as well as other Airmen around base. It was great to win but, more importantly it was a good opportunity for Airmen to see senior NCOs as normal people who like to have fun. Sergeant Hoffman said. Throughout the tournament, despite who was winning, all participants from both teams could be seen with smiles on their faces while enjoying a break from the usual afternoon workload. "The tournament was great, the Airman's Council is going to challenge the Top 3 again soon," Airman Rouse said. "Next time we're going to choose a different event slightly more suited for the Airmen, and hopefully, even more (people) will attend than this time."
