TMO supervisor wins AFMC traffic management award Published March 5, 2008 By Airman 1st Class William O'Brien 95 Air Base Wing Public Affairs EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- An Edwards civilian employee recently received an award for excellence in traffic management. Ellis Wright, 95th Civil Engineer and Transportation Directorate transportation management specialist supervisor, received the 2007 AFMC Surface Distribution Deployment Command award. The award was given to Mr. Wright for his performance as a traffic manager. Mr. Wright coordinates transportation of all shipments entering and leaving the base. Through his leadership, his freight team transported 220,000 pounds of cargo and 34 passengers to Kandahar, Afghanistan, and to South America for a NASA mission. "I wouldn't have been able to get the award without the tremendous amount of effort I got from the freight team," Mr. Wright said. "I also wouldn't have won this award without our Edwards customers." Despite a significant reduction in personnel, Mr. Wright's freight team completed all mission tasks assigned to them, said Murray Westley, 95th CE chief of transportation. "Before we became a more efficient organization, we had about 40 people doing this job," Mr. Wright said. "Now we only have 15, and we haven't lost any production." The office transitioned from a full Traffic Management Office to a Personal Property Shipping Office maintaining a 97-percent customer satisfaction rating. Even with the transformation to a PPSO, the office maintains high service standards to the customers here, Mr. Wright said. "He brings good enthusiasm to the table, and I'm glad he's being recognized for his great accomplishments," Mr. Westley said. "He's a hard worker, and I'm happy to have him working for me."
