95th CG hosts communications, information career day Published April 2, 2008 By Senior Airman Julius Delos Reyes 95th Air Base Wing Public Affairs EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Communications and Information Career Days is set for April 14 and 15 at the Conference Center here. The two-day event, whose activities are open to all Edwards personnel, features Craig Ritza, the Air Force Personnel Center communications and information career program manager from Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, as the guest speaker and career counselor. With the Air Force creating the new Cyber Command - focused on information and the Defense Department's global network - the C and I include many of the most dynamic and important careers fields in the Air Force, said the event's host, Col. John Odey, 95th Communications Group commander. "Our aim is to provide situational awareness and information about what is going on across the Air Force in the cyberspace realm and how that is opening up new horizons in C and I career fields," Colonel Odey said. "There are (also) many changes that are going on," he said. "We are still going through a significant transformation given AF personnel reductions, where we reduced the overall C&I career fields, both military and civilian, by more than 8,000 personnel." The goal of this event is to ensure members of Team Edwards are aware and able to take advantage of the new opportunities in the C and I career fields, said Julie Karr, 95th CG deputy director. C and I career fields are open to more than just computer professionals - there are opportunities for administrative assistants, information managers, air traffic controllers and visual information specialists, to name a few, all covered by this very broad career field, Ms. Karr said. "This is a very dynamic time in the world of Information Technology careers," Colonel Odey said. "We want everyone to have the opportunity to learn about future prospects in cyber operations, knowledge operations and global information delivery." The C and I career days will include the latest information about the communications and information program, along with opportunities for individual counseling with Mr. Ritza. Information will include career track opportunities, tuition assistance and future growth, as well as briefings about senior positions and future trends. "These career days can certainly serve as an information wellspring for people who are interested," Colonel Odey said. "I would encourage everyone who is interested in communications and information career fields to attend."
