Following the first 2008 installation retreat ceremony on April 25 at 1 p.m. in front of the Air Force Flight Test Center, the 95th Air Base Wing is set to host a Wingman and Sports Half-Day at the Oasis Community Center.

Col. Nancy Wharton, 95 ABW commander, authorized the Wingman and Sports Half-Day as an alternate duty location for all 95th Air Base Wing personnel. All others are encouraged to attend.

"We're having the Sports Half-Day to allow base personnel to participate in some friendly competition," said Master Sgt. Iafeta Iafeta, 95th Force Support Squadron lodging manager. "At the same time, (it allows them to) network between all units and work to build basewide camaraderie."

Uniform for the retreat ceremony is the Airman Battle Uniform or Battle Dress Uniform. The Air Force physical training uniform is encouraged for the Wingman Sports Half-Day and barbeque, Sergeant Iafeta said.

Signing-up for the sports events is free and can be coordinated through individuals' designated private organizations like the Airmen's Council, Middle-Tier Association, Edwards Top Three, Company Grade Officers Council and the Junior Force Council, he said.

The feature sports event will be the Fit Race, which will have four teams, one representing each of the four types of servicemembers -- officers, senior noncommissioned officers, NCOs and Airmen. Each team will be comprised of five participants.

Each participant of the Fit Race will perform sit-ups, push-ups and then be timed on how fast they can run one and a half miles. The team scores will be calculated by the total amount of sit-ups and push-ups the entire team does and the slowest time of all five runners on each team.

Other events include a 15-person dodgeball game, a five-on-five basketball game and a six-person game of wallyball. Wallyball is a combination of volleyball and raquetball played inside a raquetball court.

"All four sports events are taking place at the same time, so to maximize participation, please only sign up for one," Sergeant Iafeta said.

Others who do not wish to participate are still encouraged to come watch the events, he said.

"This will be a fun event, we encourage all our servicemembers regardless of rank to come participate," Sergeant Iafeta said. "It will be a nice break from the usual workday."
