The 95th Air Base Wing hosted a Wingman and Sports Day at the Rosburg Fitness Center here April 25.

Active-duty military, civilians and contractors, as well as private organizations such as the Airmen's Council, Middle-Tier Association, Edwards Top Three, Company Grade Officers Council and the Junior Force Council participated in the half-day event.

"Wingman Day is very important to the health and morale of Team Edwards," said Col. Nancy Wharton, 95th ABW commander. "It is a chance for us to get together and participate in activities that we normally don't get to do on a day-to-day basis and have some friendly competition."

The Wingman and Sports Day kicked off with a retreat ceremony in front of the Air Force Flight Test Center. Shortly thereafter, the Sports Day commenced featuring a fit race, card games, basketball, wallyball, a dodgeball tournament, as well as free food.

"Part of the day is to help people get to know each other," Colonel Wharton said. "We are giving our team an opportunity to get outside and do other things."

Through Wingman Day, participants received a chance to play together, get to know each other and become a cohesive team, said Chief Master Sgt. Eric Jaren, 95th Mission Support Group superintendent.

As part of Wingman Concept, there are three important things Airmen should think about, Chief Jaren said.

"Care about what you do," the chief said. "Take care of each other and put more in than you take out."

Wingman Day is more than just a Sports Day, he said.

"It is an entirely different way of looking at things," Chief Jaren said. "It is all about how we act and how we conduct ourselves. It is upholding our Air Force core values and embodying them."
