Airman forges his way to jail time Published June 13, 2008 By Capt. Seth Deam Air Force Flight Test Center Staff Judge Advocate office EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- An Airman with the 95th Medical Support Squadron was sentenced with a reduction of grade to E-1, 10-month confinement and a bad conduct discharge at a general court-marital here June 3. The Airman pled guilty to stealing more than $12,000 from his former supervisor on multiple occasions, forging his former supervisor's signature on a sales receipt and smoking marijuana. The Airman used a social security number and knowledge of general personal information to hack into a former supervisor's online account. From there, he transferred more than $74,000 from a home equity line of credit to a checking account and ordered a debit card sent to an address in Southern California. The accused intercepted the debit card and used it to make more than $12,000 in transactions over nine days before his supervisor discovered the fraud. The Airman is currently confined at the Naval Consolidated Brig Miramar in San Diego, where he will serve his confinement. General courts-martial are reserved for the most serious criminal offenses, and any punishment not prohibited by the Uniform Code of Military Justice may be adjudged including death when specifically authorized.
