Edwards to celebrate Independence Day with Summer Bash Published June 25, 2008 By Airman 1st Class William O'Brien 95th Air Base Wing Public Affairs EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Team Edwards is hosting the 17th Annual Summer Bash at Roberts and Wings Field here July 4, from 4 to 10 p.m. The festivity is in celebration of the United States' 232nd anniversary of the day it gained its independence. "Events like this are intended to get everyone from around the base together," said Sandra Davis, 95th Force Support Squadron information tickets travel director. "It gives everyone the opportunity to get to know each other and have a good time." Summer Bash will feature carnival rides, music, food, drinks, games and will culminate with a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. The celebration is open to all base personnel, both civilian and military, as well as their families. "You can expect Summer Bash to be fun for everyone," Ms. Davis said. "It will be an eventful day, and there will be something there for everyone to enjoy. We want everyone from the base to come out and join us. Summer Bash offers amusement for everyone and is a great way to celebrate the Fourth of July." In addition, food and drink items will be sold by various private organizations such as the Airman's Council, Edwards Top 3, Middle-Tier Association, Enlisted and Officers Spouses Clubs, Chiefs Group, the First Sergeants Council, Company Grade Officers Council as well as the Junior Force Council. "All the money raised will go to the base's private organizations for the improvement of the quality of life here," said Airman 1st Class Donald McCann, Airman's Council vice president. A volunteer from last year's Summer Bash, Airman McCann said he had a really good time because there was so much for everyone to do. For Master Sgt. Phillip Gettins, 95th Force Support Squadron first sergeant, Summer Bash is also a great way to commemorate United States servicemembers. "Summer Bash gives the community an opportunity to reflect on our military heritage together," Sergeant Gettins said.
