452nd FLTS hosts Security Awareness Week Published July 14, 2008 By Airman 1st Class William O'Brien 95th Air Base Wing Public Affairs EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- To emphasize the importance of security throughout the unit, the 452nd Flight Test Squadron here hosted a security awareness week July 7 to 10. The event featured security awareness booths, briefings, guest speakers, demonstrations and static displays. "We have Security Awareness Week to address security protocol that may become neglected on a daily basis," said Brian Asbee, 452nd FLTS security manager. "We are trying to get people to take an active role in the security of vital assets." The weeklong event began with an assembly in hangar 1414 July 7. Guest speakers addressed foreign disclosure, operational security, information security and industrial security. On July 8, the Air Force Office of Special Investigations held a briefing mandated for all 452nd FLTS employees. The briefing was followed by a reception with free giveaways, as well as a weapons display by the 95th Security Forces Squadron and a demonstration by the Northrop Grumman K-9 drug and bomb search team. "Things like the security forces display and the K-9 demonstration keep people interested," said Eileen Hasting, 452nd FLTS security specialist. "It gives them a look at different aspects of security and helps them to realize how crucial security is to base operations." Throughout Security Awareness Week, daily security questions were e-mailed to unit members each morning, and at each event, participants had an opportunity to win prizes by answering their security questions. The week concluded with a demonstration by the base's explosive ordinance disposal team. "Each event had a great turnout," Ms. Hasting said. "We do this to get people to become enthusiastic about daily security procedures." Events like this are very helpful, said James Elder, 452nd FLTS instrumentation engineer. It demonstrates how important security protocol is at work and helps people to keep security in mind every day. "I would like to thank everyone who helped us put this event together as well as everyone who took part in any of the events throughout the week," Mr. Asbee said. " I hope we continue to do this in the future."
