21 95th SFS Airmen return from Iraq Published Oct. 21, 2008 By Airman 1st Class William O'Brien 95th Air Base Wing Public Affairs EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- On Oct. 16 the 95th Security Forces Squadron welcomed back, 21 Airmen from a six-month deployment to Balad Air Base, Iraq. The Airmen performed security operations for Balad, and maintained Law and Order in support of the Global War on Terror. "You should all be proud of what you've done," said Col. Jerry Gandy, 95th Air Base Wing commander. "Few people can say they've done as much for their country in their life as you have in the past six months." The Airmen received a welcome home reception from their co-workers, family members and base leadership. "It's nice to be back," said Airman 1st Class Michael Bruno, 95th SFS patrolman. "It was great to see all my friends again. When I saw them, it felt like I hadn't left at all." Airman Bruno said now that he's back, he is going to catch up on sleep and enjoy his vacation. "The deployment made me think about what's important and to appreciate the little things," said Airman Bruno. "It was rewarding because it was such a unique experience. It makes you realize that no matter if things are going good or bad, you're going to be a better person because of your experiences." The 21 Airmen will undergo the Reunion and Reintegration Program to ensure they receive the utmost quality care and support upon their return to Edwards.
