As part of Air Force Materiel Command's initiative to strengthen workforce engagement, Team Edwards is participating in Check Mission Accomplishment Through Engagement from Nov. 10 to 26.

More than 1,200 military and civilian workforce are participating in the CheckMATE program.

"I am excited about the CheckMATE program and its potential organizational impact at the Air Force Flight Test Center," said Maj. Gen. David Eichhorn, AFFTC commander. "We are a data-driven organization and as many Fortune 500 companies have found, the data from this survey can be used to improve the welfare and motivation of the workforce. This will ultimately enhance our ability to do the mission and our credibility within the acquisition community."

This program focuses on looking at the emotional and psychological attachment people have for their work and work group, said Greg McCutcheon, Air Force Flight Test Center organizational development consultant. It also addresses the issues that enhance or detract from their engagement. It looks at those positive and negative factors.

The AFMC has teamed up with Gallup Corporation for this initiative. Gallup, a research group, has developed a set of 12 questions to measure the level of workforce engagement. According to Gallup research studies, work units identified as highly engaged are apt to display a corresponding high success rate in performance outcomes and display significantly higher success rates in other measures of performance.

The survey includes questions about expectations, opportunities, recognitions, values, mentorship, job importance, commitment and evaluations.

"Gallup will send out an e-mail to 1,200 participants identified," said Susan Love, AFFTC organizational consulting office chief. "The e-mail will have the 12 questionnaires, which are directly focused on the work unit and human behavior."

When the AFFTC organizational consulting office receives the data back, they will send the information to the supervisors who will work with their team to develop an action plan in addressing their "engagement issue," Ms. Love said.

"The CheckMATE program is important because we need to be more effective and efficient," said Ms. Love. "We want our people to have a passion and the commitment for their work."
