Desert snow puts Edwards on two-hour delay Published Dec. 18, 2008 95th Air Base Wing Public Affairs EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- A rare desert snow storm has Edwards AFB operating on a two-hour delay Thursday, Dec. 18. Base officials have approved a 9:30 a.m. show time to allow Edwards employees ample time to safely traverse the oddly wintered roadways in the greater Antelope Valley. "Winter snow is a rare treat that brings its share of road and travel hazards to the high desert," said Colonel Jerry Gandy, 95th Air Base Wing commander. "While we welcome the sight so close to the holidays we must recognize the increased potential for accidents, and make every effort as Wingmen to watch out for one another." Base closure and late-reporting information will continue to be disseminated through the pyramid alert system. For future updates call the Edwards Straight Talk Line at (661) 277-2345, or check the Edwards Vital Information page on Edwards public web page at www.edwards.af.mil. Base residents can tune to The Commander's Access Channel 6, on the Time-Warner Cable system, for the latest official information. (Current as of 10:30 p.m. Dec. 17, 2008)
