The 95th Air Base Wing commander held a commander's call at the base theater Jan. 6, as part of the preparation for the upcoming unit compliance inspection.

The UCI team will evaluate Edwards on areas that are critical and important to the health and performance of the base.

"We are going to stand tall during the entire UCI and we're going to stand proudly behind everything we do here to contribute to our nation," said Col. Jerry Gandy, 95th ABW commander. "The inspectors are going to come out here and they're going to make sure we're doing things correctly and I'm sure that we are. We've invested time and effort in preparing for this. Now you're all ready and it's time to show them what you can do."

Colonel Gandy talked about the UCI and what Edwards needs to do to pass the inspection.

As part of the target readiness inspection, he addressed some of the preparations the Airmen need to make, including gas mask inspections, weapons familiarization and review of Airman's Manual.

"In the training leading up to this UCI, you've learned basic weapon safety; how to clear, disassemble, field strip, function check and make sight adjustments," Colonel Gandy said. "We've trained you on all this, but if you have any doubts look it up in your Airman's Manual or ask a wingman. If you don't know don't be afraid to ask someone who does."

Colonel Gandy advised everyone to listen carefully to how the inspectors ask questions and answer them accurately and briefly.

"When the inspectors are asking questions keep your answers brief, if you know the answer to what they're asking you, answer it. If you don't, tell them you'll go get them the answer immediately," said Colonel Gandy.

Colonel Gandy concluded the commander's call by reminding everyone of how much work they've put in preparing for this and reassuring them that they're ready.

"The fight's been on for the UCI since last August, when we started preparing for this," said Colonel Gandy. "You're ready right now. You've invested in the hard part, the preparation. Now go and show them how great you are."
